I learned this after I no longer had access to the book though and do not remember enough to judge whether or not it is true. Loved it! Used it in AP Physics and it has really carried me through learning Intermediate Mechanics in my first year in college.

The concepts are explained so well - it doesn't have the calculus that I've learned in class, but it's an excellent review. I used the 8th edition for my baby E and M course.

Its colourful and friendly. You're right about working the problems. I worked thourgh nearly all of them in part 4 and made nearly flawless exam grades in that class.

I bought the text for 4 dollars on chegg. Unfortunately I lost it when I moved to university. I have the pdf but I hate reading from the screen. I'm going to download the book again this summer, this time from site for 53 dollars because this summer i intend on going through the whole thing as preperation for the physics subject GRE.

Nov 29, Jason Avina rated it it was amazing. This is probably the first review because its the newest edition, but yeah overall pretty good.

Lots of problems to work through, it bugs me though that the answer book is another whole dollars or something though, that's such a rip off. Most students just download the pdf for free, which due to the exorbitant cost of books, I believe is justified.

Book makers neeed to figure out a different economic model if they want to keep selling books. Overall I think this book does what it has to do This is probably the first review because its the newest edition, but yeah overall pretty good.

Overall I think this book does what it has to do well. My main problem is following along with the authors when they're deriving equations.

They just seem to start doing all this algebra and wahlah! The algebra or calculus isn't complicated but how did they know to end up at the equations that we're using?

If we're deviring an equation that means we don't know the equation yet. Its like if you don't know your destination how do you know what roads to take to get there?

Physics For Scientists and Engineers With Modern Physics

Maybe the next edition should try and let the students derive the equations at the beginning of the chapter first, instead of doing all the brainwork for us. Then again, this topic is difficult enough and I'm not sure that's really necessary for a student to have a thorough understanding of the material, in fact I don't think it is. But the chapter on angular momentum was pretty confusing, and I think it was the one most students had trouble with.

I'm only halfway through the book though at chapter Other than that other topics like kinematics, vectors, rotational dynamics, energy, fluids, and thermodynamics and other topics are explained pretty well. Periodic motion I felt was done especially well since that's a complicated topic but was explained in an easy to understand yet thorough way. If you are a science or engineering university student and looking for a good Physics textbook, look no farther. After having a look at a few of them, this is in my opinion the best one available out there.
